Accountabilities
1. Legal compliance

a) Helps the Board determine STEP2’s values, mission, vision, and short- and long-term goals.
b) Helps the Board monitor and evaluate STEP2’s relevancy to the community, its effectiveness, and its results.
c) Keeps the Board fully informed on the condition of STEP2 and on all the important factors influencing it.
d) Identifies problems and opportunities and addresses them; brings those which are appropriate to the Board and/or its committees; and, facilitates discussion and deliberation.
e) Informs the Board and its committees about trends, issues, problems and activities in order to facilitate policy-making. Recommends policy positions.
f) Keeps informed of developments in substance use treatment, human services, not-for-profit management and governance, philanthropy and fund development.
3. Management and Administration
a) Provides general oversight of all STEP2 activities and assures a smoothly functioning, efficient organization. Chief Executive Officer may employ a Chief Operating Officer to manage the day-to-day operations.
b) Supervises the Clinical Supervisor and oversees the Clinical team and ensures that STEP2 is appropriately licensed, follows all applicable laws, and maintains appropriate compliance to operate as a substance use treatment/recovery program.
c) Assures program quality and organizational stability through development and implementation of standards and controls, systems and procedures, and regular evaluation.
d) Assures a work environment that recruits, retains and supports quality staff and volunteers. Assures process for selecting, development, motivating, and evaluating staff and volunteers.
e) Recommends staffing and financing to the Board of Directors. In accordance with Board action, recruits personnel, negotiates professional contracts, and sees that appropriate salary structures are developed and maintained.
f) Specifies accountabilities for management personnel (whether paid or volunteer) and evaluates performance regularly.
4. Governance
a) Helps the Board articulate its own role and accountabilities and that of its committees and individual members, and helps evaluate performance regularly.
b) Works with the Board President and President Elect to enable the Board to fulfill its governance functions and facilitates the optimum performance by the Board, its committees and individual Board members.
c) With the Board President and President Elect, focuses Board attention on long-range strategic issues.
d) Manages the Board’s due diligence process to assure timely attention to core issues.
e) Collaborate with the Board officers and committee chairs to foster thoughtful input and active engagement.
f) Recommends volunteers to participate in the Board and its committees.
5. Financing & Fund Development
a) Promotes cost-effective programs and services by maximizing efficiency while maintaining acceptable quality standards.
b) Supervises the Chief Financial Officer, oversees the fiscal activities of the organization including budgeting, reporting and audits.
c) Works with Board to ensure financing to support short- and long-term goals.
d) Assures an effective fund development program by serving as the Chief Development Officer or hiring and supervising an individual responsible for this activity.
e) Helps guide and enable the Board, its fund development committee(s) and its individual Board members to participate actively in the fund development process.
f) Helps the Board design, implement and monitor a viable fundraising plan, policies and procedures.
g) Participates actively in identifying, cultivating and soliciting donor prospects.
h) Assures the availability of materials to support solicitation.
i) Assures the development and operation of gift management systems and reports for quality decision-making.
6. Community Relations
a) Facilitates the integration of STEP2 into the fabric of the community by using effective marketing and communications activities.
b) Acts as an advocate, within the public and private sectors, for issues relevant to STEP2, its services and constituencies.
c) Listens to clients, volunteers, donors and the community in order to improve services and generate community involvement. Assures community awareness of STEP2’s response to community needs.
d) Serves as chief spokesperson for STEP2, assuring proper representation of STEP2 to the community.
e) Initiates, develops, and maintains cooperative relationships with key constituencies.
f) Works with legislators, regulatory agencies, volunteers and representatives of the not-for-profit sector to promote legislative and regulatory policies that encourage a healthy community and address the issues of STEP2’s constituencies.
Physical Demands/Working Conditions:
This is a high-stress position based on full responsibility for STEP2 operations. Handles detailed, complex concepts and problems, balances multiple tasks simultaneously, and makes rapid decisions regarding administrative issues.
Plans and implements programs. Establishes strong and appropriate relationships with Board, committees, volunteers, staff, donors and clients. Develops smooth and constructive relationships with executive colleagues, outside agencies, organizations and individuals.

Qualifications:

Find and implement opportunities for process improvement in company tax procedures.
Develop and implement strategic tax planning for all necessary federal and state taxes.
Manage members of the tax team as they prepare components of the company's US federal income tax return and other tax documents.
Plan for and develop overall return calendar and coordinate timing and inputs with tax team.
Maintain effective control procedures over all aspects of the tax process.
Manage and facilitate IRS income tax audits: preparing responses, creating schedules, etc.
Monitor legislative and regulatory tax law developments, communicate the effects of these developments to management and the tax team and create strategies to capitalize on changes to taxation legislation.
Provide support with various internal audits and special tax related projects.
Review tax returns and quarterly/yearly tax projections.
Manage and mentor members of tax team to greater levels of effectiveness and engagement.
Job Requirements:
Extensive individual/corporate/partnership tax knowledge
Strong accounting, analytical, and research skills.
Excellent written and oral communication skills.
Strong knowledge of tax code, compliance and procedures for corporations.
Familiarity with U.S. federal, state and local reporting requirements.
Strong experience with a variety of tax operations and ability to drive process improvements.
Strong ability to utilize project management and accounting best practices to organize and prioritize tasks and the tasks of other tax team members.
Ability to work well independently as well as the ability to work well with stakeholders and communicate the benefits of tax initiatives.
Strong organizational and interpersonal skills.
We are looking for a candidate with 5+ years of experience in a tax manager or public accountant role and at least 2 years of experience in a management role. Preferred candidates have a current CPA license and a master’s degree in an accounting discipline.
